Kedarnath Trek – Lord Shiva's Divine Abode

On the final day of your Chardham Yatra, rise and shine early. Best Time to Visit

  • May to June – Peak season, pleasant weather, all routes open.
  • September to October – Post-monsoon, clear skies, fewer crowds.
  • November to April – Winter season, Kedarnath & Badrinath closed due to heavy snow.
  • July to August – Monsoon season, landslides possible, trekking challenging.
  • Kedarnath Temple opens in April/May and closes in October/November.

Climate & Clothing

  • Summer (May-June): 15°C to 25°C – Light woolens, comfortable cottons.
  • Winter (Nov-Apr): -5°C to 10°C – Heavy woolens, thermal inners, down jacket, gloves, monkey cap.
  • Monsoon (Jul-Sep): 10°C to 20°C – Raincoat, umbrella, waterproof shoes.
  • Sturdy trekking shoes with good grip are essential for Yamunotri & Kedarnath treks.
  • Carry multiple layers – temperature drops significantly at higher altitudes.

Trekking Information

  • Yamunotri Trek: 5-6 km one way, 4-5 hours, moderate difficulty.
  • Kedarnath Trek: 14 km one way, 6-8 hours, moderate to difficult.
  • Ponies, palanquins, and dolly services available at additional cost.
  • Start treks early morning to avoid afternoon weather changes.
  • Carry water, energy bars, dry fruits, and basic medications.
  • Hire licensed guides for better experience and safety.

Connectivity

  • Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun have excellent 4G coverage.
  • Barkot, Uttarkashi, Guptkashi have decent mobile network (BSNL/Airtel).
  • Kedarnath and Yamunotri have very limited/no network.
  • Badrinath has BSNL connectivity.
  • Inform family and friends about limited connectivity in advance.
  • Offline maps are highly recommended.

Food & Water

  • Uttarakhand cuisine is simple and sattvic, especially near temples.
  • Must-try: Aloo ke Gutke, Phaanu, Kafuli, Chainsoo, Bal Mithai, Singhauri.
  • Stick to bottled or filtered water throughout the yatra.
  • Vegetarian-only food in pilgrimage areas – no alcohol/non-veg near temples.
  • Eat at recommended or hygienic restaurants and hotel dining areas.

  • 30+ days before departure: 15% cancellation fee.
  • 21–29 days before departure: 25% cancellation fee.

  • 7–13 days before departure: 75% cancellation fee.
  • Less than 7 days or No show: 100% cancellation fee.
  • All refunds processed within 15 working days after cancellation.

Amendments

  • Changes to itinerary, dates, or hotel upgrades must be requested at least 21 days before departure.
  • All amendments are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.
  • Name changes in booking are not permitted.

Accommodation

  • Accommodation provided on double/triple sharing basis in standard hotels, guesthouses, or GMVN lodges.
  • Kedarnath accommodation is basic (camps, dharamshalas, or GMVN) due to high-altitude terrain.
  • Room allocation is at the discretion of the hotel/lodge management.
  • Special requests are subject to availability.
  • Early check-in (before 12 PM) and late check-out (after 11 AM) may incur additional charges.
  • Similar category accommodation may be provided if booked property is unavailable.

Transportation

  • Private air-conditioned SUV/Innova/Tempo Traveller for all transfers and sightseeing.
  • Vehicle is point-to-point basis, not at disposal.
  • AC may not operate in hilly terrains due to gradient.
  • Driver's decision on route, stoppage, and timing will be final.
  • Unscheduled travel or extra stops are not permitted.

Trekking & Porterage

  • Ponies, palanquins, and dolly services are available at additional cost.

Helicopter Services

  • Helicopter tickets for Kedarnath are NOT included in the package.
  • Helicopter bookings are subject to availability and separate payment.

  • Helicopter services are weather-dependent and may be cancelled without prior notice.
  • No refunds for helicopter cancellations due to weather – alternative arrangements to be made by traveler.
